We cordially invite all our SGA members to begin the the holiday season this year with us at the magical Cloister at Sea Island, Georgia. This is a very, very special place to the SGA, and this will be our 50th year in attendance in December at Sea Island.
The Cloister was SGA founder Bob Swanson’s favorite golf resort to visit. The Cloister at Sea Island is fabulous all year round, but at Christmas, it is more festive and beautiful than ever. Delight in the life-size gingerbread village, marvel at the twenty-five foot Christmas trees, enjoy the local carolers in their authentic Victorian costumes, and on top of it all, play some of the most beautiful golf courses on earth….you deserve it! Oh, and we can’t forget about the divinely luxurious beds, on which you will float like a cloud in the cozy Georgia evenings.
Plantation, Retreat, and Seaside are award-winning, first-class golf courses. Seaside, the yearly site of the McGladry Classic, winds along the coast among dunes and tidal creeks and is breathtaking in scenery. Plantation plays through oak tree forests and has expansive fairways and beautiful views. Davis Love III and his brother Mark renovated the Retreat Course back in 2000. The undulating greens and numerous bunkers create a challenging and enjoyable course. Three days of play plus an optional scramble or practice round on the day of arrival are included in your plan.
The luxurious and beautiful guest rooms at the Cloister and The Lodge have the finest amenities of any hotel. Each room is uniquely designed, and the service is impeccable. Many of the staff members have been at The Cloister for years and love welcoming the SGA with its traditions again and again.
SGA FOGs (Friends of Golfers) especially love the beautiful Sea Island area and the festive and elegant Christmas spirit at The Cloister. SGA will plan activities for the FOGs, including lunch, Christmas shopping, tour of nearby Jekyll Island, and other optional excursions.
Located an hour and a half from Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), The Cloister is also serviced by Delta at Brunswick Airport (BQK), a half hour from Sea Island. Transportation from the airport can be arranged; you do not need a car while at Sea Island.
Check-in, optional Scramble or practice round, opening dinner and drinks will be Monday, December 8. Event golf rounds will be December 9, 10 & 11, and closing dinner and drinks is the evening of December 11. We will check out and depart December 12.
